Tiered free gifts for Shopify

Give more as they spend more, without giving away your margin

Build a ladder of rewards that unlocks as the cart grows. Every tier can hold as many gifts as you want, priced free or discounted, with guardrails on stock and schedule.

Works with your existing cart and drawer. No discount codes to hand out, no theme edits to undo.

How it works

First

Set the spend for each tier

Choose the cart total that unlocks each rung of the ladder. Stack as many tiers as your catalogue can support.

Then

Choose what unlocks

Pick one gift or a whole bundle, free or discounted, and decide whether the shopper chooses or you do.

Finally

Publish with guardrails

Schedule the run, keep a reserve of stock the offer cannot touch, and queue a backup in case the first gift sells out.

Everything a tier can do

Six controls that turn a simple gift threshold into a promotion you can actually run all year.

Multi item tiers

Put as many gifts in a tier as you like

A tier is not limited to one product. Load it with a bundle and hand over the whole set at once, or let the shopper pick their favourite from the shortlist you approved.

  • Give the full bundle or let shoppers choose
  • Let shoppers pick their own size or colour
  • Every gift lands in the cart as its own line

Free or discounted

Not every reward has to cost you the full item

Set each gift to give the product outright, take a percentage off, or knock a fixed amount off the price. Early tiers can stay cheap to serve while the top tier does the heavy lifting.

  • Free, percentage off or amount off, per gift
  • Advertise the value so shoppers feel the saving
  • Keeps the ladder profitable at every rung

Subscription offers

Reserve the best gift for subscribers

Offer a gift only to shoppers who choose a subscription, or pin it to one specific selling plan so it comes with the monthly plan but not the annual one.

  • Require a subscription, or simply allow one
  • Pin a gift to the exact selling plan you choose
  • Gives shoppers a reason to subscribe at checkout

Schedule and preview

Run it on a timer, and try it before anyone sees it

Give the promotion a start and an end so it retires itself. Before it goes anywhere near a shopper, switch it to preview and run it on a draft theme where only you can see it.

  • Start and end dates in your store timezone
  • Preview on a draft theme, invisible to shoppers
  • Nothing goes live until you publish it

Inventory guardrails

Decide how much stock the promotion is allowed to spend

Set the number of units you want held back for paying customers. When giving a gift away would break into that reserve, the offer steps aside instead of overselling a product you still need to sell.

  • Keep a reserve the offer cannot touch
  • Set it per gift, not just per campaign
  • Never promises a gift the warehouse cannot ship

Backup gifts

Queue a second choice so the tier never goes empty

Rank a list of substitutes behind every reward. If the first gift sells out or would break into your reserve, the next one steps in on its own and the shopper still gets the moment you promised.

  • Order backups by preference, not by accident
  • Swaps happen on their own, nothing to republish
  • The tier keeps converting while you restock

Common questions

What merchants ask before they build their first reward ladder.

What is a tiered free gift offer?

A tiered free gift offer sets a series of cart spend thresholds, each unlocking its own reward. A shopper who reaches $50 might earn a free candle, and one who reaches $120 earns the candle plus a book. Shoppers can see the next tier as they shop, which encourages them to add another item.

Do shoppers need a discount code?

No. Rewards apply automatically once the cart clears the threshold, so there is no code to hand out, no code to leak, and nothing for the shopper to remember at checkout.

Can one tier give away more than one gift?

Yes. A tier can hold as many gifts as you want. Hand over the whole bundle at once, or offer a shortlist and let the shopper pick one. Each gift arrives in the cart as its own line.

Does the gift have to be free?

No. Every gift can be set to free, a percentage off, or a fixed amount off. Early tiers can stay inexpensive to serve while the top tier does the heavy lifting.

What happens if the gift runs out of stock?

You can rank backup gifts behind each reward. If the first choice sells out, or giving it away would break into the stock you reserved, the next one in the list is offered instead, so the tier keeps working while you restock.

Will it work with my theme?

AOVtools works with your existing cart page and cart drawer. You turn it on from your theme editor, and you can place the reward progress widget exactly where you want it or let it position itself.

Start with one tier. Add the next when the first one earns it.

Build your reward ladder in an afternoon, watch it run on a schedule, and keep the guardrails on while it works.
