How is this different from Shopify's own discounts?

Shopify's native discounts take money off a cart. They cannot show a shopper how close they are to the next reward, add a free gift to the cart for them, let the shopper choose which gift they want, hold back stock you still need to sell, or fall back to a second gift when the first sells out. AOVtools does those things, and applies automatically with no discount code.

What kinds of offers can I build?

Running today: a free gift on any order, a ladder of gifts that unlocks as the cart grows, buy X get Y where the cheapest qualifying item is discounted, and automatic percentage or amount off a product, product type, vendor or tag. New types get added as merchants ask for them.

Do shoppers need a discount code?

No. Offers apply automatically as soon as the cart qualifies, so there is no code to hand out and no code to leak.
